What you should know about workplace health and safety
Health and safety are among our highest priorities at AltisSPR. We work closely with clients to protect our contract and temporary employees—through education, awareness-building, and constant communication about safety-related issues.
What we do
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) asks all staffing firms to take an active role in reducing workplace accidents and promoting safety. We do this, in large part, by making sure our candidates and contractors understand their rights and responsibilities when it comes to safety in the workplace. We also provide every contract and temporary employee with a copy of our Health & Safety Manual.
What you can do
As an employer, there are many ways for you to contribute to workplace health and safety—starting from day one. When a new contract or temporary arrives at your workplace, take some time to do the following:
- Review the emergency procedures set out for your floor and building, and show the employee where emergency exits are located;
- Show the employee where your First Aid Kit is stored, and indicate if a specific employee is registered to administer First Aid;
- Provide training on any equipment the contract or temporary employee may be required to operate; and
- Acknowledge any onsite safety hazards you may be aware of.
Accidents and injuries: How to respond
If an AltisSPR contract or temporary employee is injured in your workplace, here’s what you should do:
- Administer First Aid. If necessary, send the employee to a medical facility by taxi cab; we’ll reimburse the expense.
- Advise your AltisSPR Consultant as soon as possible.
- Request your Joint Health and Safety Committee to conduct an Accident Investigation.
- Inform AltisSPR of the results of the investigation.
Workplace safety is a collective responsibility. Together, we can ensure safe working environments.
